Scott Ritter: ‘Get Ready for the War against Iran’
September 30, 2007
William Scott Ritter, Jr. was chief United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq from 1991 to 1998, and later for his criticism of United States foreign policy in the Middle East. Prior to the US invasion of Iraq in March, 2003, Ritter publicly argued that Iraq possessed no significant weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). He became a popular anti-war figure and talk show commentator as a result of his stance.
Unsurprisingly because of Iraq, Ritter is super-alert about another US military misadventure, so he might be exaggerating the risk of an attack this time around. At the moment this is still a war that the coorporate media are gunning for. Bush on the other hand is very self-conscious about global-opposition, which is why he failed to mention Iraq and barely mentioned Iran at the United Nations.
“Continued war in Iraq is a tragedy. Having the conflict spread to Iran would be a disaster. No one can claim to possess a crystal ball showing the future. There are many who, when confronted with the potential for conflict with Iran, choose to brush these warnings aside, noting that such a conflict would be madness, and that the United States currently lacks the resources to fight a war with Iran. Such wishful thinking borders on irresponsible foolishness.”

‘I hate all Iranians’, US aide tells MPs
September 30, 2007
An article from the Daily Mail about a US aide, wearing a leather jacket with an Iron cross, voicing her hatred for Iranians. Of course, the Iranian regime has been chanting ‘death to the American government’ for many years already. It looks like there will be a face-off of some form between the two sides and at the end of it only one side will be standing…The question remains as to whether there will be a war.

The great Neocon bluff?
September 30, 2007
After the US congress officially labelled the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as ‘terrorists’, Iran responds by branding US troops and CIA with the same tag.

Sounds like propanganda. The fact is that both sides are now military poised for a conflict even if the flashpoint remains elusive. The US cannot take action without a real excuse, because the ensuing fallout from an attack will require international support and consensus. Currently the US cannot count on the UK’s support for such an attack. Russia and China are also opposed- even though would equally prefer Iran to renounce its ambitions.
It is fairly clear that the US is diverting attention from the mess in Iraq by blaming Iran. The rhetoric serves this purpose more than adequately, but I do not believe the Bush will go as far as to launch an attack, however much the neocons and Israel are hankering after one. So far the media have switched their gaze to Iran and Bush has to keep the bluff going to avert people’s attention from failure in Iraq.
